You’ve probably heard of Olaplex, this started off as a salon professional treatment to help repair and strengthen damaged hair which are No. 1 and No. 2, and fortunately for us they expanded the range for home treatments too. No 3, the hair perfector which is a pre-shampoo leave-in treatment. And No. 4 and No. 5 the Shampoo and Conditioner which is what I am going to review now. They also have No. 6, No. 7 and mostly recently release a No. 8 which are all different treatments.
Olaplex hair care products feature first-of-their-kind, patented, bond-building technology which relinks the broken disulfide bonds often caused by chemical, thermal and mechanical damage to the hair. The products feature a powerhouse ingredient labelled Bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate to actively restore broken bonds caused by damage, this is found in all Olaplex products. Their products are also free from parabens, sulfates and phosphates, and mostly importantly they are cruelty-free.
So, I have been using the Olaplex No 4 and No 5, the bond maintenance shampoo and conditioner for a few months now and I regularly dye my hair.
The Shampoo
I find that a little amount goes a long way when shampooing, I personally tend to get oily roots and dry ends, so I mainly focus the shampoo on my scalp. It provides a creamy yet foamy lather to my scalp which leaves my hair feeling clean without over drying my hair, this is something I have personally struggled with in the past with shampoos.
The conditioner
Conditioning after shampoo is a must especially if you colour your hair as it tends to get dry and more tangled. This conditioner does not disappoint, it has the same patented Bis-aimnopropyl diglycol dimaleate ingredient as all the products do so it continues the Olaplex magic of restoring, hydrating, and strengthening broken bonds. I personally apply the conditioner from a quarter away from my roots mainly focusing it on the ends of my hair.
Verdict
These two products are the best shampoo and conditioner I’ve used on my hair. There is a noticeable difference in my hair since switching to Olaplex, my hair is healthier, feels stronger, and a lot more manageable overall. I’ve also noticed less hair fallout since switching and my hair just looks a lot more vibrant and happier. The bottles are quite compact making them nice and easy to carry when travelling, and they are available in two sizes, a 100 ml (£13) and 250 ml (£26).
